Countryphile was shot on location at Saint George’s Hospital this weekend. The idea for the film came about when I told Cara an anecdote about a visit to a gynaecologist who revealed himself to be a country and western musician in his spare time. Cara foolishly encouraged me to make a film about it and promised to star. I met Toby Williams at a stand up gig where he gave the most brilliant performance as his on stage persona, Dr George Ryegold. Together the pair are a comedy dream team.
The tiny crew meant that everyone had to double up on jobs, with Joanna Thapa producing and acting as sound recordist, and Caroline Bridges, our director of photography getting a ‘foot double’ credit for one or two shots, thanks to Mary Cuffe’s excellent make up and nail polish painting skills. We were in and out of there in seven short hours and that includes moving some hideous and frankly disgusting medical teaching props over to the other side of the room and back VERY CAREFULLY. Liquids. Blurgh. The film will go straight into post and we hope to have the finished film by spring 2014.
