EXCLUSIVE: Gemma Arterton, Ewen Bremner and UK boxer Nicola Adams have joined the cast of Kenton Oxley’s mixed martial arts (MMA) drama Killa Bee, with production set to get underway in the UK later this month.
The sports biopic marks the first film role of Olympic Gold medal winner Adams.
Capture is continuing sales at Cannes.
Based on a true story, it follows Bryony ‘Killa Bee’ Tyrell – a nurse by day, MMA fighter by night. Elliot J. Langridge and Pippa Bennett-Warner also star.
It’s produced through Oxley’s UK company Knockout Productions in association with Picture Perfect and Moviehouse Entertainment. Ruth Sewell has written the script. 
The King’s Man star Arterton takes over from the previously announced Daisy Ridley.
“Bryony’s life story is powerful, raw and deeply inspiring. Playing her is both a challenge and a privilege, and I’m ready to step into the cage,” said Arterton.

Amy (pictured below) is in her late 30s. She was diagnosed weeks after giving birth to her second child, and despite the fact that she's still in treatment, organised and hosted an event for over 160 people. Big thank yous to her and our other inspirational subjects.

One of the best things about the process is having an excuse to force my patient life-partner to sit through hundreds of horror movies, and I think I've found my favourite this year. Uncontroversial opinion, but there you go. If you haven't seen it yet, do yourself a favour and watch it now, it's a masterpiece.

"EXCLUSIVE: Star Wars alum Daisy Ridley is set to star in the true story of an ICU nurse who became a ferocious MMA fighter.

Killa Bee will tell the story of Bryony Tyrell, a mother of two with a master’s degree in nursing and a degree in molecular biology who worked on the ICU by day, navigating the challenges of the NHS, and at night transformed into one of Britain’s leading cage fighting prospects.
The Southampton nurse began kickboxing at university and worked her way up to black belt before branching out into martial arts. She began competing as an amateur before moving to the professional ranks and has won multiple belts.

Ridley said today: “Bryony’s story is one of extraordinary courage and resilience. I was deeply moved by her emotional and empowering journey. I can’t wait to bring her spirit to the screen”.

Capture will be launching world sales on the project ahead of next week’s American Film Market. Production is being lined up to begin Q2, 2026.

Written by Ruth Sewell, the film will be directed by Kenton Oxley (Farah) and produced by Knockout Productions in association with Picture Perfect and Moviehouse Entertainment. The producing team includes producers Lucinda Thakrar (Boudica: Queen of War), Mark Vennis (Funny Cow) and executive producer Michael Foster. 

The producers added: “Bryony Tyrell has been involved in the project with Kenton Oxley since the beginning and is supportive of her inspirational story being brought to the screen. She is actively consulting on the project. The scripting process has been shaped in close dialogue with Bryony’s family, ensuring emotional truth and creative integrity at every turn. Director Kenton, a longtime friend of Bryony’s since their school days, brings a deeply personal lens to the story—one rooted in trust, history, and fierce creative loyalty.”

International sales manager Nathan Wang, who brokered the deal with the producers, commented: “It’s a true honour to be working on this highly original, raw, inspirational, and ultimately unforgettable project. It’s our first time partnering with Daisy Ridley, and we cannot wait to see her bring Byony’s grit, vulnerability and sheer inspirational drive to the screen.”

Ridley, who plays Rey in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, recently starred in action pic The Cleaner and is in post on rom-com The Last Resort.

This is the second time I have teamed up with Don't Panic, an agency specialised in charity films, and they've been wonderful to work with as ever. 

Executive Producer, Jenn Houlihan, and Creative, George McCullum put together the original creative and outline for the idea, and we developed it using interviews with real kids about what the perfect carer would look like. Steph Baxter and Kieron Carruthers from GOSH made up the brilliant production team and we had a great time shooting with 7 incredible young people - their resilience and stoicism in the face of really tough medical circumstances floored me time after time. Huge thanks to Dan Hawkins for his perfect finishing touches to the online edit and Composer Ed Cook for his wonderful work on the soundtrack. 

Hopefully this will help to raise lots of cash for GOSH, and allow them to continue their groundbreaking work, treating some of the country's sickest children.

With over a third of the sector due to retire in the next five years, even more people with Parkinson's are potentially facing a future without specialist help. I found meeting Shafaq genuinely inspiring. As a dentist with two young children who was diagnosed at 40, she had a very difficult time coming to terms with her new life, but she faced it with fearless dignity and has found new direction as a teacher and campaigner. Hats off to Artur Zaremba and Siena Bevan for this moving edit.
