Just completed an interesting low budget project for a charity that's developing a rehabilitation program for men who have substance use issues and have committed intimate partner violence. The program has been proven to literally save lives, which is not something I can often say about my job, so this one was pretty special.
We reenacted two of the organisation's group therapy sessions with actors in place of real service users. I created their characters and worked with the actors individually to develop them and then the group improvised their performances over the course of a two day shoot. The films ended up being over two and a half hours worth of deliverables which will be viewed all over the world by other clinicians who are recreating this groundbreaking program. Quite an experience. Here’s a little taster of it.

Had a lot of fun shooting these pretty little cocktail videos for Tastemade this week, and then a couple of additional recipes with Scott Ball, better known as @scottcaneat from Instagram and Tiktok. Had to come up with about a million 'hacks' to get to these so hope you enjoy!
Wow, what a stunning film. Brilliantly cast by my old pal from Big Talk, Lucy Pardee. See it big if you can.
Very excited to be embarking on a new feature writing project - a co-production over 4 continents about an animal rights campaigner. More to follow...
Has so much fun directing this German TVC for Reblis Films with the brilliant Lisa Turnbull producing. When she approached me about the project, she told me it was for a female-focussed pharma brand. When pressed, she revealed it was a feminine hygiene product. I did quite want to know what the actual product was and Lisa finally admitted it was for BV gel. Well. What a time to be a female director. How could I say no?
The script was written and developed by Turrell Rossi and we got some great cast and crew on board including Nathalie Pitters (DoP), Sarah Mursal (Production Design) and Micki Colker Pearlman (1st AD). My first directing gig as a mother with a three month old baby was not without its challenges, but Lisa and Rosie from Reblis were incredible and even let her have a sneak peek of the locations on the recce. Three sweet mini-docs profiling three exceptional black-owned businesses in honour of Black History Month. Apart from struggling to get a cab for an hour on day two and then loading in the kit only to have the driver take off without me, it was a lovely stress free shoot, with the brilliant Chris Clarke shooting and Zoey Roberts producing.
Here's a sweet little film I made for Silverfish about the value of libraries for the Arts Council. From people in their teens to people in their 80s, libraries play a huge role in many people's lives and it's great to see them getting the support they need to keep expanding their offering to communities across the UK.
Very excited to be working with director Kenton Oxley and producer Erica Emm on a feature commission about an MMA fighter who's also a wife, mother, and NHS nurse. In our story she faces the biggest fight of her life not against a brutal opponent in the cage but against her own mental health.
This project combines so many of my interests and has a fascinating true story at its heart. It will be an exhilarating, darkly comic, and highly subjective look at depression, body dysmorphia and life in the cage and on the front line of the NHS. I feel extremely honoured to be asked to write this story, just hope I can do it justice... I've been a bit quiet on here these last few months as I've been working as Script Editor on Danny Boyle's next TV show - a 6 part drama about the rise and fall of the Sex Pistols, based on Steve Jones' book, 'Lonely Boy'.
It's been such a privilege to learn from people who have been at the very top of this industry for 20+ years and seeing how Danny and Craig (in particular) approach their craft. The fact that you couldn't ask for a friendlier and more welcoming cast and crew is a big bonus too. We're shooting until the summer, so until then, get pissed, destroy. |
