We're wrapped on Samira's Party! It was real. Amazing cast and crew, talent for days. Loved every minute.
So I spent my Saturday directing and shooting a 7-camera production about fundraisers dangling from Broadgate Tower in Liverpool Street. How was yours?
Dauntless Pictures (i.e. Joanna and me) are producing a short film written and directed by Bijan Sheibani called 'Samira's Party', which shoots mid-June in London. It's a sweet little coming of age tale about a 13 year old boy and his mother and will star Jodhi May and Georgie Farmer. Here's a little picture of our production team (minus me, behind camera) with the director., pretending to work. Really excited for the shoot!
I directed a couple of little trailers for the NSPCC to promote David Tait and Mat Bennett's fundraising adventures in the coming months. The brief was to inject a little comedy into their fundraising activities and to make them look EPIC.
Not many people have gone as far as David Tait to help us keep children safe – he’s already raised over £1 million for the NSPCC. After being sexually abused as a child, he’s determined to make sure the charity protects as many children as possible. David's latest challenge is to climb Mount Everest for the sixth time.
Mathew Bennett and Team Essence are pushing themselves to the limit and taking on an expedition that’s never been attempted before. They’re taking on 1,400 miles of the Gobi Desert in Mongolia – trekking from the western edge to its far eastern corner using only human power.
Good luck guys!
VESPERS is the story of what happens when Eve, (Fiona O'Shaughnessy, UTOPIA) who is terminally ill, returns to her once idyllic seaside family home to face her estranged sister Frankie (Keeley Forsyth, HAPPY VALLEY) and her son Aiden (Tom Powell). With a fading future and a painful past, two sisters struggle to embrace the present.
I produced the film for Artur Zaremba, a BAFTA winning director for whom this was a real passion project. It was an intense shoot, not least because there was absolutely no reception or wifi in the remote Welsh location(!!) but with the help of brilliant DoP Steven Ferguson, it looks like they're shot some really beautiful stuff. Can't wait to see a first cut!
Brilliant and bizarre short - Glen Baxter meets Akira. Very much worth watching. Hats off to the sick mind of Jeanne Boukraa. Your work is very inspiring!
I mean. This is completely amazing. Three years after the fact, the film has made back over four times it's original budget. Sure, that budget was minuscule, but we have finally been able to give our lovely cast and crew a little cash for their efforts, with some left over for the next short! Thanks very much WFTV and Lifetime! You made us feel oh so special.
